Join us for a Technical Tour to the Heavy Haul Port of Saldanha, the largest port on the west coast of Africa. The tour will take place the day after the conference on 07 September 2017.
About the Technical Tour
At 141 km from Cape Town, Saldanha port and the iron ore line is the closest heavy haul operation to the conference. Guests will be transported in 44 seater luxury coaches.
At Saldanha the tour will include:
- A visit to the Saldanha Port Terminal manganese and iron ore handling facilities
- Transnet Port Walk-about
- A visit to the Tippler operations
- Panoramic View at TPT Tower Building
- A visit to the Iron Ore line operating centre
- A Drive along a section of Iron Ore Line up to Elands Bay
The tour will depart from the city at 06h30, traveling along the scenic West Coast road to reach Saldanha Port at 08h30. Upon arrival delegates will proceed with the four-hour tour of the Transnet facilities, a short drive along the Ore Line and afterwards, to Saldanha Port Terminal for Iron Ore Stock Pile and tippler operations as a tower view
Thereafter delegates will be transported to the Strandloper Seaford restaurant for a scrumptious and leisurely outdoor, 10 course, traditional seafood lunch.
The Strandloper restaurant is an open air, casual restaurant with sand underfoot, blue skies above, at the water’s edge with magnificent view of Langebaan Lagoon. To the accompaniment of live traditional guitar music, meals are served in individual courses extending over a leisurely three to four-hour period. The central focus is an open braai (barbeque) area where everything from black mussels in wine to “really strong” coffee takes its turn. Traditional treats include, fish curry, angel fish and snoek, grilled haarders, smoked angel fish, snoek with sweet or steamed potato, plus waterblommertjie bredie (Cape Asparagus Stew).
At 17h00 the tour will depart for the return trip to the city.
